GOVERNOR SCOTT WALKER DECLARES “VICTORY!”

Waukesha, Wis. – Governor Scott Walker won Wisconsin’s historic recall election tonight, making him the first governor in United States history to survive a recall attempt.

“This is such a tremendous victory for Wisconsin taxpayers,” said Ciara Matthews, Walker campaign communications director. “Today, Wisconsin voters have told the nation they stand with Governor Walker because he stands with them.”

Following his victory over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Governor Walker thanked the voters for their support and focused on the future.

“Bringing our state together will take some time, but I hope to start right away,” Governor Walker said. “It is time to put our differences aside and figure out ways that we can move Wisconsin forward.”

Governor Walker also spoke about his immediate plans, saying he will meet with his cabinet tomorrow to discuss job creation measures and other actions he will take to bring Wisconsin together, encourage economic growth, and continue to address education reform.

Following this attack, an argument erupts at a local restaurant over this strange behavior. A drunk believes the attacks are a sign of the apocalypse, but a young mother chides the man and others for scaring her children. Mrs. Bundy (Ethel Griffies), an amateur ornithologist, insists that different bird species do not flock or attack together. Despite her claim, a motorist is attacked while filling his car with gasoline; he is knocked unconscious and the gasoline continues to pump out onto the street. Another motorist, unaware he is standing in the puddle of gasoline, disregards warnings from the people in the restaurant as he lights a cigar, and drops the match on the ground, resulting in an explosion and fire. The birds attack as people pour from the diner to survey the damage, and Melanie is forced to take refuge in a phone booth. Mitch rescues her and they return to the restaurant, where the hysterical mother accuses Melanie of being the cause of the attacks. Melanie and Mitch later find Annie dead on her front porch and Cathy in tears, having witnessed Annie’s death from inside the house.

Melanie and Mitch’s family take refuge in the Brenners’ house and board up the windows. The house is attacked by the birds more viciously than ever before, and at several points they nearly manage to break in. Mitch is injured when a few birds break through a window and peck his hands. In the evening, when everyone else is asleep, Melanie hears noises from the upper floor. Not wanting to disturb Mitch, Melanie takes a flashlight and investigates. Entering a room at the top of the stairs, she finds that the birds have managed to break through the roof. They violently attack her, trapping her in the room until Mitch comes to her rescue. He and Lydia tend to her, but she is catatonic and they must get her to a hospital. A sea of birds ripple menacingly around the Brenner farm, but do not attack as the humans make their escape. The radio reports other bird attacks in nearby communities. The film concludes ambiguously, as the car slowly makes its way through seemingly infinite flocks of birds into the sunrise.

Most if not all the polls in Wisconsin have Governor Scott Walker ahead of the recall candidate Tom Barrett. According to the newest poll by the organization “We Ask America” have Governor Walker with this considerable lead. Keep in mind, polls differ not only by who’s polling, but also if our friends in Wisconsin will vote and are registered Republicans.

Here are the poll results by “We Ask America” (h/t C4P):

*The head-to-head results were weighted to correct for over-/under-sampling of the gender and age bracket areas. The weighting changed the final results by less than one percentage point.

Rasmussen has Walker on the lead so far by only 5% (+/-3% the margin of error)

(Via Scared Monkeys): A new Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey shows that 50% of the state’s Likely Voters prefer Walker while 45% choose Barrett. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate and another two percent (2%) are undecided.

At The Weekly Standard, Public Policy Polling, a Democratic firm, found the exact same results (Walker 50%, Barrett 45%) when it polled the Wisconsin recall race in April [...] but the good news for Walker is that he has an 8-point lead among independent voters.

Another polls is showing the same five percent difference, this time from St. Norbert College and Wisconsin Public Radio. It showed Barrett trailing Walker by a similar margin, 50-45 percent.

The date is set for June 5th; let the Scottmentum continue.

Todd and I and our family would like to wish you all a happy Memorial Day weekend. We’d especially like to offer our best wishes to our friends in Rolling Thunder who will be taking part in their Ride for Freedom this weekend in D.C. as they do each year to honor our vets and specifically to bring awareness to POW/MIA issues. We were honored to join them last year.

 We were both sad to learn that Preston “Jay” Fairlamb, Jr., one of the organizers of Rolling Thunder and someone who made us so welcome last year, tragically died in an accident last week.  Jay was a Vietnam vet, a retired New Jersey State Trooper, and a great American who will be dearly missed.  Please keep his wife, his children, grandchildren and his innumerable friends in your prayers.

On this Memorial Day weekend, may God bless our brave men and women in uniform.

I feel compelled to write about this, because it’s something that haunts us at one point or another in our lives, and because we often notice those that we judge as sinners or irresponsible, get most of what we want the most. We carry on and on about how unfair this is, and wonder why God and Jesus has put us in a position where what we want the most, it’s the hardest thing to get-if we ever get it at all.

One of my best friends has been married for more than ten years, yet they still can’t conceive a child. Multiple trips to doctors, tests and multiple diagnosis. There’s the “who’s at fault” for this to happen (him or her), financial roadblocks for more options and possible procedures make it even harder on them. They are such a good couple who have all the love in the world and are so ready, can’t have their dream come true-a child for them to dote on, to love and protect.

Yesterday I had a long conversation with someone I know and I love dearly and they are trying too-but they had a false alarm. The sadness and anxiety at the other end of the line was heartbreaking for me-even anxiety for any possible health issues that a baby of hers may get! I listened intently, seeking in my silence Our Lord Jesus Christ for wisdom, intermixed with my own life experience as a mom and how “I got there” to ease her feelings. I found myself in an interesting situation: I told her several reasons as to why this is happening in her life at this stage, and did my best to ease her broken heart that yearns for a baby so much-and consoled her, reassured that this “hiccup” (a false alarm) can mean that next time, they will get lucky indeed and have a beautiful bundle of joy.

Sometimes we get frustrated when we don’t get what we want, no matter how significant or pointless it is. We want a nice house, nice cars, a great job with endless possibilities for promotions, bonuses or to become the best at what we are. Perhaps we got all of that-yet there’s the one thing nagging at us, that we want so dearly and we can’t seem to get it-or it involves a compromise we are not willing to give.

I closed my eyes and asked Jesus for wisdom, for advice. These women that I love so much will get their babies, in one way or another. They love God, Jesus and are very Christian, are active with the church and both hold nothing against God for not becoming pregnant. This I find incredible, because so many others do find the easier path to take, and that is to blame God and Jesus for anything that they want and can’t get.

There are several questions we need to ask ourselves for situations like this: Is what we want just material possessions? Will it get us closer to God? Will it benefit others and not just ourselves? Are we willing to share our joy and give more of ourselves if we get what we want? Will it make us better Christians, get us closer to God? Have we done anything, worked hard to achieve our goals? C’mon, if we want a car, go ahead and pray for it, but Jesus is not a genie in a bottle! Read Proverbs 28-29 and see if we see ourselves under the grace of God, or if we are on the wrong path of selfishness and reckless behaviors.

Proverbs 29:25: The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.

I will continue to ask Jesus for guidance and for answers; pray for my family and friends, so that they experience the blessings of becoming mothers. I will also pray for them to have the patience and the wisdom to know that Jesus wants the best for both of them, and that time is key, regardless if there are feelings of hurry and anxiety.

Jesus wants you to be safe, and to feel safe when you pray and meditate. Remember this, though: Thank God for what you have already, and for what He has in store for you, so you’re ready for the gifts and for the challenges ahead. There lies your reward.

The privately bankrolled Dragon capsule made a historic arrival at the International Space Station on Friday, triumphantly captured by astronauts wielding a giant robot arm.

SpaceX is the first private company to accomplish such a feat: a commercial cargo delivery into the cosmos.

“There’s so much that could have gone wrong and it went right,” said an elated Elon Musk, the billionaire maestro of SpaceX.

“This really is, I think, going to be recognized as a significantly historical step forward in space travel — and hopefully the first of many to come.”

We are successful and great at what we do. We built space shuttles that we used over and over again. We sent rovers to Mars; our outdated Hubble has captured hundreds of amazing images from our galaxy and beyond, and unfortunately due to our economy our space program has suffered with job losses, budget shortfalls and now we even depend on the Russians to go back to the ISS-which means we have to adjust to their schedule every single launch. A minor inconvenience but on our end we wish we could do more.

I certainly hope that when Mitt Romney wins in November, the United States bounces back so we continue with our space research, and an exciting return to the Moon.

Barry was quite the accomplished marijuana enthusiast back in high school and college. Excerpts from David Maraniss‘ Barack Obama: The Story dealing with the elaborate drug culture surrounding the president when he attended Punahou School in Honolulu and Occidental College in Los Angeles. He inhaled. A lot.

“A self-selected group of boys at Punahou School who loved basketball and good times called themselves the Choom Gang. Choom is a verb, meaning ‘to smoke marijuana.’” The best quote from Maraniss’ piece: “Barry also had a knack for interceptions. When a joint was making the rounds, he often elbowed his way in, out of turn, shouted ‘Intercepted!,’ and took an extra hit. No one seemed to mind.”

As a member of the Choom Gang, Barry Obama was known for starting a few pot-smoking trends. The first was called “TA,” short for “total absorption.”

Along with TA, Barry popularized the concept of “roof hits”: when they were chooming in the car all the windows had to be rolled up so no smoke blew out and went to waste; when the pot was gone, they tilted their heads back and sucked in the last bit of smoke from the ceiling.

When you were with Barry and his pals, if you exhaled precious pakalolo (Hawaiian slang for marijuana, meaning “numbing tobacco”) instead of absorbing it fully into your lungs, you were assessed a penalty and your turn was skipped the next time the joint came around. “Wasting good bud smoke was not tolerated,” explained one member of the Choom Gang, Tom Topolinski, the Chinese-looking kid with a Polish name who answered to Topo.
