Questions For Governor Palin With Regards To Revenue From TLC’s “Alaska”

I Can See Sarah Palin's Alaska From My Living Room

UPDATE: I added information on the bullet-point section below, with regards to Louisiana and Puerto Rico. I provided evidence of how Louisiana benefits from the film industry, and for those that don’t follow the “Twilight” series, Louisiana is where the film started. Right now they are still filming, but in Vancouver. A segment of the new “Pirates Of The Caribbean” was filmed in Puerto Rico. A proper link about that is below as well.

I hope that now this turns into a non-issue, considering how many incentives Obama has granted large corporations that have contributed to the Democrat Party.

Thanks, The Palin Express

It is still going on, my friends. Apparently, Governor Palin‘s Facebook post did not answer one of my reader’s questions. Therefore, I will place that comment here. I know the answers to these questions, as well as many of you who read here.

But I promised the best answers I could offer; therefore, I will attempt to get as close to the source as possible. The Daily Caller did not do their job as professionnal journalisms to distinguish or write about this mini-series. Homework on the matter could have easily been done and interview any and all people involved, and left her out of the picture. Unfortunately that was not the case.

So here it goes:

————————————————————————————————

I can’t help but notice that nowhere in her response does half-Governor Palin ever actually deny accepting the $1.2 Million from Alaska for her faux-reality television series.

All I see is more of Ms. Palin’s patent-pending “I’m a victim” reaction to the media accurately reporting her own words and actions, and then her railing against the “liberal media” for being “mean” to her. According to Ms. Palin, she is the single-most-often misquoted person in the history of the written word.

So, I will put the question in so simple a set of questions that even Sarah Palin won’t be able to misconstrue, divert, distort or distract from a simple yes-or-no answer:

Was “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” subsidized, fiscally augmented, reimbursed, credited or remunerated in any way, shape or form by the state government of Alaska? Yes or No.

Did your TLC television show “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” receive the aforementioned subsidy, fiscal augmentation, reimbursement, credit or remuneration because it became possible as the result of legislation you implemented as governor of Alaska in 2008? Yes or No.

Were you, Sarah Palin, or any investments or accounts held by you or for you, the recipient of ANY money – directly or indirectly – as a result of that Alaska payment/credit to the production company? Yes or No.

Do you believe that you should not be held accountable to the “feathering the nest” rule regarding legislators and profit from legislation? Yes or No.

Do you believe it is hypocritical of you to personally accept public money for a private television endeavor while you simultaneously speak out in favor of cutting funding for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System? Yes or No.

No punches pulled there, Ms. Palin. No obscure, unclear questions. No sandbags. Just a series of simple, easy to answer, yes-or-no questions.

I challenge you to reply to them each with nothing more than a “yes” or “no” answer.

I decided to look up some blog pieces that cover this same topic, right before I tweet about this. Here are the links, below:

  • Doc Zero, at Human Events;
  • USA Today explains why Baton Rouge, LA was chosen to film part of “Breaking Dawn;”
  • On Location Vacations, website that shows ALL current films and their locations;
  • Stacy from C4P answers what entails tax credits, production and incentives for films/mini-series and other documentaries for states like Alaska;
  • Jim Geraghty at NRO posted an update that did NOT reflect the truth of Alaska’s incentives and tax breaks that Governor Palin, in a bi-partisan effort, signed into law in 1998 as part of her own agenda of “Back To The Future” where she’d benefit from filming “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” with TLC. State tax and federal taxes are totally different, and the state was the one that really got the benefit from its beauty and resources.
  • Louisiana benefits greatly on their tax incentives and they have a website where all the information is broken down, and all the films that are currently in agenda. I posted this information on Ace’s website who ponders about the same non-issue; nevertheless he’s getting slammed as well.
  • US Territories like Puerto Rico have also been excellent film locations, i.e., the new “Pirates Of The Caribbean“. Check out the carriage scene, the Fort, and the small private island. Scroll down where it says, “Fajardo, Puerto Rico”. The carriage scene, along with the fort was filmed in Old San Juan.

NOTE: Alaskans are quite happy about all the incoming tourism. How does GE feel about their benefits, tax breaks and “blind eyes” that they get from Obama?

NOTE: (Please scroll below for a very cute YouTube clip of a 2-year old girl watching the “Eclipse” preview while it was unfolding).  Cuteness as in, better than YouTube clips of kittens!). ;D

Oprah had us waiting for hours on end, to be able to see the newest movie trailer of “Eclipse”, out on the movie theaters on June 30.  There were a lot of “Twilight” fans that were really unsure of this movie, because of all the book series, “Eclipse” is a very intense, action-filled story.  I read all the books, I have diverse opinions on them, and I really wish it ended with a trilogy.  Below is an embedded YouTube release of the latest trailer; enjoy!  PS:  I don’t own nor have any rights over this movie, I am sharing with the blogging world that is not directed towards “Twilight” series.  Therefore, no responsibilities here.

“Breaking Dawn” is the book I don’t want to see on film

Stephenie Meyer herself should redo almost the whole thing.  In a nutshell, she wrote on the first books all the ground rules that establish how the story should unfold.  To my disappointment, with “Breaking Dawn” she broke all the rules.  It is very difficult to work with a publisher that wants you to go strictly to a “Young Adult” category, which makes it even harder to write several scenes that require more details, especially when it comes to intimacy.  This leaves all of us adults to use tons of imagination, especially in areas where I feel blindfolded and cannot see or picture in my mind the scene in front of me.  Let me explain without spoiling anything:

When I grab a book (especially one that will make it to the movies, or I saw the movie, then got the book), it’s like hitting “Play”, and while I read, I can picture if not everything, almost everything.  I bet most people read like this, as if they were watching a movie.  If it’s a hard-to-put-down book, like the “Twilight” series, I can finish a book in no more than three days.  Born a bookworm?  Still a bookworm!  Of course, when I have to put the book down I hit “Pause”, and that continues until the end.  If the storyline starts to become ambiguous, takes you in a direction where the character herself cannot give you any details of what’s going on around her, what are you supposed to do, especially at the cusp of the whole thing?  The less description of any surrounding, or a dress, adding a continued and enhanced effort to display the character as annoying as possible is really frustrating. Jasper would work overtime to control Bella’s weird mood swings.  Especially when vampires don’t sleep at all, according to Meyer.

I advice any of you that have seen any movie and you feel that there are some flops here and there, please pick up the novel; it’s worth it.  It’s extremely hard to find a movie director that will do the this book justice.  Therefore, my queasiness for a possible “Breaking Dawn” movie, either in one or two segments.

The only exit I see for a good “Breaking Dawn” movie would be if Peter Jackson, director of the “Lord Of The Rings” series, grabs it.  It has to be a very bold, famous movie director that can pull this off.  This is just my opinion, of course based on the control and vision of how things should play out, despite the content of the book itself.  If you still don’t trust my asessment, click on my link to the left, and read the book reviews.  If you don’t follow the series, you won’t understand this thread; if you do, you will be extremely biased and this varies by age.

There are many websites out there, but one that I like a lot is Twilight Lexicon (off of WordPress) that is quite detailed, keeps fans informed and has many clips and videos.  There’s where I got this little piece of jewel:

Got Bit Once, I Bit Back And Now I Am Eclipsed By Twilight

I love me some “Harry Potter”, and I used to be a awesome bookworm-treat that my son got from me-where now he can chow down a book with almost 200 pages in a day.  That’s awesome for a 9-year old.  So I have the last four of the “Harry Potter” series, and the movies are great; but “Muggles” like me are not usually satisfied with the movie that comes out based on a book.
Reading a book before or after the movie, gives you a lot of perspective and a wider approach to the movie.  You understand it better.  Characters are not that “stiff”, not shallow, are very wholesome and even lighter and easier to grasp.  Movies are very complex, there’s difference in styles in each movie director, background, and what to grasp from the book to put out there to millions all over the world.
I am one of the many that believe that the “Harry Potter” movie series would’ve benefited having the same director on all films.  I know for sure that Book 7, the final of the series, will be broken in two.  I don’t know if Peter Jackson (from the “Lord Of The Rings” series) will take the job.  I hope that the next director(s) honor J.K. Rowling’s masterpiece share with the moviegoers as much as they can from the books.
Now I jumped into “Twilight”.
My curiosity as a mom, with all these teenagers at the mall, posters everywhere, jewelry, etc. of the main characters of the movie “bit” me.  I had to find out and rent “Twilight” to see what the fuss was all about.  So I watched it and all I thought about “Edward” was:  “Weirdo…weirdo…weirdo”.  Everything was so different, so dark, I couldn’t stand him.  Then, “Edward” kinda grew on me.  I cannot take “Bella” seriously since that’s my dog’s name, and the actress Kristen Stewart was not performing to my expectations.  Too serious?  Not much expression?  Not that happy?  Is the book really like this?
When the second movie came out I thought it was just worthless to make those insanely long lines to watch it.  I knew it was another “Harry Potter” phenomena, and with “Harry” I was happy and content.  Now that “New Moon” came out, I decided to purchase it instead of renting it because I had the “hunch” that it would be way better than the first one.  And boy oh boy was I pleased!  Yep, I bit back.  I won’t spill anything here, of course, but the ending was so unexpected and stunning that I just thought, “Heck no, I gotta see what happened next”, therefore I bought “Eclipse”.  I am a very good reader and can finish a book in less than a week, but this one is gonna take longer than that, considering the thickness of it.  I am considering purchasing the “Twilight” book because of the movie vs. book differences.
And it’s gonna be a hard-to-read book, since I can tolerate so much romance in a book.
